I read the obituary today of a man called Ralph Beyer, who among other things designed and carved all the distinctive inscriptions in Coventry Cathedral. His life was a fascinating story, as obituaries of people you've never heard of often are. The piece described him as an 'inscription carver' or 'letter carver' but also referred to someone else who helped him as a lettercutter. Is it me, or is that just a fantastic word? I shall add it to my list of favourites.

I have written 2,406 words today, and not one of them was as lovely as those.
